Basic Law Enforcement Training

Credential: Certificate (Code: C55120)

The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county or municipal governments, or with private enterprise.

This program utilizes State-commission-accredited topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.

Students that have successfully completed all course requirements as mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission, as well as all requirements mandated by Bladen Community College, may be eligible to take the certification exam and are eligible to participate in the BLET Graduation Ceremony at the recommendation of the BLET School Director.

In order to be hired as a certified law enforcement officer in North Carolina, students must pass the comprehensive state exam administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

This program leads to a Certificate. It consists of one course totaling 632 hours. The college normally offers one course per year but would respond to additional demands.

Enrollment in CJC 110 is the equivalent to enrolling in twenty (20) semester hours, thus students are considered full-time. This course is approved for financial aid as well as VA benefits.

To qualify for admission into this program, the applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalent and complete the BLET application packet.
